Nigerian singer Ikuforiji Olaitan Abdulrahman popularly know as Oxlade, has finally opened up to the public about why he left the Lagos State University (LASU).
The artist in recent podcast, revealed that he left in his final year due to diverse gang threats, fear of his safety and so on.
He further explained that his decision to drop out was due to so many dangerous times, incidents, and situations back in school campus.
He mentioned; "I dropped out of the university in my final year because it was a crazy time". "There were some gangs after me because I'm a fine boy. being a fine boy makes you a target".
"Its either you join them or they off you, so I had to leave that environment".
He said the school environment was too tough for him back them , insisting that the environment back then, is far from what it is today.
Oxlade is a Nigerian singer and songwriter who is signed to 'Troniq Music', Epic Records in France, and Columbia Records in the UK. Oxlade was born on 22 April 1997 in Surulere, a residential area of Lagos. After the passing of his mother when he was 3, he was raised by his father and grandmother alongside.
His lyrics are a mixture of English, and Pidgin English, often exploring contemporary topics such as love. He has won the Listeners Choice Awards and an All Africans Music Awards.
"I went to Lagos State University (LASU) , go and read about the school. Now they're more focused or keen on good academics. I guess they've realized how important and fragile life is, and how important it is to pursue ones dream, so they have cracked down on that kind of behaviour".
"Now everyone is chasing money, But at that time, it was a hot period in our time then".
The singer also revealed how he ran away after dropping out of school because he was too afraid to his reasons to his family.
"After I left school, I ran away from home because, I couldn't tell my family why I dropped out. They wouldn't understand; They would just think I was making up excuses, so I couldn't go back".
"It felt like I let my family and my grandma down. The craziest thing was that, when my grandmother finally saw me, she was so calm about it".
"All that pressure I was just putting on myself was all just in my head".
